<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device which can prevent deposition of dust and can produce uniform temperature distribution in a projection display apparatus using a reflective spatial light modulating element, and to provide a projection display apparatus using the device. <P>SOLUTION: Polarization beam splitters 102, 103, 104, 105 have spaces among them and fixed to a ceramic base 21 and a ceramic base 20. The ceramic base 20 is provided with one end of a nozzle 31 having an air purifying filter. The other end of the nozzle 31 with an air purifying filter is provided with a fan 30 so that by blowing air purified by the air purifying filter to the space, the optical system member is cooled while deposition of dust is prevented. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
