PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic sensitivity adjustment method for a television camera apparatus for carrying out automatic sensitivity adjustment while keeping high image quality. SOLUTION: The automatic sensitivity adjustment method is characterized in that the method carries out the automatic sensitivity adjustment such that an F-value being a threshold value of a lens 1 is set to a prescribed value at which high image quality is obtained, first a light transmittance of an ND filter 2 hardly affecting the image quality is changed, then the sensitivity of an imaging element is changed, and then a gain of a video signal processing apparatus 4 is changed in this order. When adjustment can no longer trace the requirement of sensitivity, the F-value being the threshold value of the lens 1 is switched into a value providing an opened diaphragm and the automatic sensitivity adjustment is carried out.
