PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element driving device suitable for use to drive a laser element used as a light source for a laser xerography. SOLUTION: A semiconductor laser driving device automatically controls the quantity of light of a semiconductor laser LD by detecting the quantity of light of the semiconductor laser LD, a quantity-of-light detecting circuit 13 and imparting a quantity-of-light control voltage Vcont based on the quantity-of-light detection voltage Vdet as a means for supplying drive current to the semiconductor laser LD, that is, a current source 114 as its control voltage. When the quantity-of-light control voltage Vcont exceeds a limited voltage Vlim, the limited voltage Vlim is selected instead of the quantity-of-light control voltage Vcont, and applied to the current source 114 as its control voltage to limit the current.
