PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalytically treated matter useful as an addition polymerization catalyst component used for the preparation of an addition polymerization catalyst which gives an addition polymer having a wide molecular weight distribution, the addition polymerization catalyst component obtained using the catalytically treated matter, the addition polymerization catalyst obtained using the addition polymerization catalyst component, and a method for manufacturing the addition polymer comprising using the addition polymerization catalyst. SOLUTION: The catalytically treated matter is obtained by contacting together the following components (a), (b) and (c): (a) a carrier; (b) a scandium compound; and (c) a compound bearing an active hydrogen-containing group and/or a non-proton-donating Lewis basic group and further bearing an electron-withdrawing group.
