PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst capable of exhibiting high photocatalytic activity by irradiating the photocatalyst with visible light. SOLUTION: This photocatalyst consists of a crystal having the perovskite structure represented by formula (I): M<SP>II</SP><SB>1-x</SB>M<SP>III</SP><SB>x</SB>TiO<SB>3-y</SB>N<SB>z</SB>(wherein M<SP>II</SP>is a bivalent metal selected from the group consisting of Sr, Ca, Mg, Ba, Be and Ra; M<SP>III</SP>is a trivalent or polyvalent metal selected from the group consisting of Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu; 0<x<0.2; 0<y<3 and y≥z).
