PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid image pickup device camera unit which is easy to assemble, compact and inexpensive by downsizing a driving circuit substrate, and to provide its assembling method. SOLUTION: The solid image pickup device camera unit includes the driving circuit substrate 2 equipped on one of its surfaces with a ceramic package 1 for receiving a solid image pickup device for picking an optic image and taking out a received image signal, and mounted on the other surface with a driving circuit for supplying the power to a solid image pickup device 21 and an output connector for taking out an output signal in the NTSC or PAL format; a front fixing frame 3 having a slightly larger outline than the substrate 2, having an optical lens 4 with an arbitrary optic magnification mounted and a space for receiving the ceramic package 1 and fastened with screws one of the surfaces of the driving circuit substrate; and a rear fixing frame 8 for covering and fixing the driving circuit substrate 2 and a side face of the frame 3 and fastened with screws on the other surface of the substrate 2.
