PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a linear artificial structure from being printed to a dye receiver in the middle of dye transfer. SOLUTION: A thermal transfer printer includes a thermal transfer printing head for making a dye transfer region 5 easy to be influenced by extension with respect to edge regions 6 and 7, a web take-up device for taking up a dye donor web and applying to the dye transfer region 5 and two edge regions 6 and 7 at the printing head, a full tensile force for an inclined crease 62 to be formed to extend slantwise at respective parts at least near the two edge regions 6 and 7, and web expanders 76 and 78 which can at least substantially prevent the formation of creases by pressing to expand the dye donor web in a slantwise direction at the parts where at least the inclined crease 62 is possibly formed.
