PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an open magnetic structure provided with a conical magnetic structure including a hollow conical magnet surrounding and contacting an inner magnetic pole piece that generates an NMR imaging field around the head of a patient. SOLUTION: The annular surface of contact between the conical magnetic structure and the inner magnetic pole piece is configured such that the annular surface of contact is maintained as an equipotential surface to maintain a uniform imaging field. Other improved points to reduce possible strain of a magnetic field are also described. An advantage is that the various permanent magnetic sections are integrated as one-piece to greatly simplify fabrication.
