A downsized and thinned liquid crystal display device where lead wire connection and connector connection are facilitated. An illumination unit for illuminating a liquid crystal display panel (2) has a light guide plate (5) with a substantially wedged shape, a linear light source (4) provided along a plate thickness face on one side end of the light guide plate (5), a lead wire (44) connected to both ends of the linear light source (4), and a housing (7) for receiving the members described above. The lead wire (44) is received, along the other side end of the light guide plate (5), in a groove (72b) in a housing (7) bottom wall and led outside from the housing (7) back face. On a circuit board (11) for driving the display panel (2) is formed a guide member for guiding connection of connectors. The display device can be used as a display device for, besides navigation systems, electrical household appliances such as rice cookers.
