A signal is produced for detecting a phase of the process. During each phase at least one measured value is produced and stored by a measurement equipment (5) and a measured value of the absolute and/or relative measurement time point is stored. A recording unit (10) receives and stores the measured value. A transmitter (15) sends a phase detection signal to the recording unit (10). The process plant (1) is controlled by a PID controller (20). An independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the monitoring.
