The invention discloses a method for frame alignment, according to the character of time division multiplexing structure of SDH/SONET data, which multiplexes all the circuits provided by each channel and consisting of pointer interpreter, pointer generator and payload extracting and storing circuit etc, into a share circuit to process. It stores the states obtained by processing separately every channel, then controls operations of reading/writing of the memory and operation of the unity circuit based on timing of input signals. The invention also discloses a circuit of frame alignment. The efficiency of circuit operation is improved and the logic sca le of process is decreased through multiplexing the share circuit. The inventio n is mostly used for frame alignment in SDH/SONET system.
