PURPOSE: Provided is a flame retardant for use in interior and exterior materials for buildings, which does not decrease overall physical properties of the materials, and emits a large amount of incombustible gases without generating harmful gases. CONSTITUTION: The flame retardant using gelatin comprises an aqueous gelatin solution with which sodium chloride and sodium hydrogen carbonate are mixed. Sodium chloride used in the flame retardant is obtained from the reaction of sodium hydroxide with hydrochloric acid. Otherwise, sodium chloride and sodium hydrogen carbonate are obtained from the reaction of sodium carbonate with hydrochloric acid. Further, the aqueous gelatin solution is obtained by dissolving gelatin in water and then optionally dissolving a predetermined amount of carbonic acid therein. |
