Polyisobutenyl ethers and thioethers

Polyisobutenyl (thio)ethers (polyisobutenyl ethers and -thioethers) (I) are prepared by reaction of at least one polyisobutene epoxide having at least one terminal epoxy group with itself, other epoxides and/or in the presence of nucleophiles comprising alcohols and thiols in the presence of catalysts comprising a Lewis acid compound and/or a cationic photoinitiator under light. An Independent claim is included for a curable composition comprising a polyisobutene epoxide having at least one terminal epoxy group, a different epoxide and optionally a poly(thi)ol.
