PURPOSE: A mobile robot and a method for measuring moving distance thereof are provided to precisely measure the moving distance of the mobile robot by using an image sensor. CONSTITUTION: A mobile robot using an image sensor is composed of an image capturing unit(10), a memory(20) for storing the images output from the image capturing unit, a comparator(30) for comparing the images output from the image capturing unit with former images stored in the memory, a displacement measuring unit(40), a micro computer(50), and an encoder for measuring the revolution of a wheel. The image capturing unit photographs a floor at regular intervals, and captures floor images while the robot moves on the floor. The displacement measuring unit measures the displacement on the image on the basis of a signal output from the comparator. The micro computer converts a displacement value output from the displacement measuring unit into a real distance, and outputs the real distance to a display unit(60). Thus, the micro computer precisely measures the moving distance of the mobile robot. |
