PURPOSE: An antialiasing method and apparatus are provided to produce high-quality antialiasing for various image types including a line, a check pattern, a Bezier curve and TrueType font. CONSTITUTION: An antialiasing technique pre-filtering original image data to generate a filtered image. The antialiasing technique uses a filtering function and a rendering algorithm. The filtering function is used to give a weight to the original image data. The filtering function adjusts the center of spectrum energy of sampled image data to a region of the spectrum domain corresponding to sample spacing in the spatial domain of the sampled image data. The rendering algorithm applies the filtering function to filer the original image data. An antialiasing tool(501) for realizing the antialiasing technique includes an original image data store(503), a scan conversion module(505), an accumulation buffer(507), and a line segment determining module(509).
