PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for controlling movement of a liquid on a surface having a predetermined nano-structure or micro-structure features are provided to display other images by controlling the movement of one or more liquids within a display. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus including a surface having a pattern of features includes a plurality of nano-structures or micro-structures having intra-pattern characteristics. One or more of the intra-pattern characteristics is adapted to produce controlled motion in a predetermined direction of a droplet(701) of liquid disposed on the surface(601). One or more of the intra- pattern characteristics is a voltage of at least one of the nano-structures or the micro-structures relative to the droplet.
