Medium (A) for detection and/or identification of microorganisms (B) comprises: (a) culture medium; (b) at least one substrate (S) that is hydrolyzed to a labeled product (LP) by an enzyme (E1) specific for (B); and (c) the new feature, at least one inhibitor (I) of at least one enzyme (E2) that is different from E1 or the same as E1 but not specific for (B). An independent claim is also included for a process for detection/identification of (B) by inoculating (A) with test organism, incubation and detecting (B) from hydrolysis of at least one substrate to LP.
