Disclosed is a ceramic composite material obtained by at least partially pyrolyzing an initial mixture or an initial body with a polymeric precursor material, the initial mixture or initial body containing 0.1 to 60 percent by mass of boron. Also disclosed is a method for producing such a ceramic composite material, according to which an initial mixture containing boron is subjected to at least partial pyrolysis with a polymeric precursor material. The invention also relates to a pencil-type glow plug containing the inventive ceramic composite material as an insulating and/or conducting layer.
