PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for coating parylene polymer having high water resistance, chemical resistance and heat resistance on old books and related printed matters required to be preserved for a long period of time to protect them from fire, moisture, bookworm, virus, discoloration and decoloration are provided. CONSTITUTION: The method for coating parylene polymer on old books and printed matters such as book, photograph, picture, newspaper, silks and printing blocks comprises a mounting step of mounting the old books on a jig fabricated to respective shapes and various sizes to prevent damage of the old books and maintain uniformity of coating; a pretreatment step of removing foreign materials on the surface of the old books and increasing adhesion of parylene polymer with a matrix of the old books; and a coating step of coating parylene polymer on the old books by mounting the old books mounted on the jig in a coating chamber(22) after performing the pretreatment step.
