PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing an in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display is provided to align liquid crystal by applying an ion beam to a passivation film without an alignment film printing process, thereby reducing the manufacturing cost and simplifying a manufacturing process. CONSTITUTION: A first electrode(414) and a second electrode(413) are formed on a first substrate(418). A passivation film is formed on the first electrode and the second electrode. An ion beam is applied to the passivation film to align liquid crystal in one direction. Gate lines(411) and data lines(410) are formed on the first substrate, crossing each other. Thin film transistors are formed at cross areas of the gate lines and the data lines. Black matrices are formed on a second substrate facing the first substrate. A color filter layer is formed on the black matrices. An overcoat layer is formed on the color filter layer. An ion beam is applied to the overcoat layer to align liquid crystal. A liquid crystal layer is formed between the first substrate and the second substrate.
