PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for improving sharpness in a DLP(Digital Light Processing) system are provided to improve image quality by preventing sharpness degradation generated when using an EDF(Error Diffusion Filter) and providing a clear contour portion. CONSTITUTION: An EDF(20) reduces a contour noise of a low signal level of an inputted signal. A selecting unit(10) discriminates the type of an inputted signal, and determines whether passing the inputted signal to the EDF. A BDP(Boundary Dispersion Processing block)(30) receives a signal transmitted from the EDF or the selecting unit, and reduces a PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) artifact. An RGBY(40) receives a signal outputted from the BDP, and improves a luminance(Y). An SPP(Split Plane Processing) multiplexer(50) receives a signal outputted from the RGBY, and reduces the PWM artifact.
