PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a premixed combustion ignition internal combustion engine in which production of NOx is suppressed by forming a more uniform premixed gas even when the engine load of a compression ignition internal combustion engine is within a comparatively high load range including a high load range and executing premixed combustion. SOLUTION: The combustion ignition internal combustion engine which executes premixed combustion comprises at least a first intake port 6a and a second intake port 6b for forming swirling flows having different swirling ratios in a combustion chamber. The port 6a has, at a specific site which is part of the intake port, reaching the combustion chamber, a cross-sectional area smaller than the area of the second intake port 6b so that the swirling ratio of the swirling flow formed by the first intake port 6a is larger than that formed by the second intake port 6b. An auxiliary fuel injection valve 12 for injecting auxiliary fuel to form the premixed gas is provided on the second intake port 6b side. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
