PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing a sulfur component contained in hydrogen chloride gas (1) without increasing moisture content in it. SOLUTION: The sulfur component is removed by contacting the hydrogen chloride gas (1) containing the sulfur component with a metal oxide (2). The metal oxide is, for example, aluminum oxide, a titanium oxide and silicon oxide. The granulated metal oxide whose BET specific surface area is 10 m<SP>2</SP>/g or more and whose pore volume is 0.05 cm<SP>3</SP>/g or more where a pore radius is 0.1μm or more and 1μm or less is used.
