PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water absorbing mat which improves the stiffness of a product, ensures handling properties, prevents reduction of bulk on the occasion of lamination, eliminates complicatedness of production processes and increases the absorbing capacity of an absorbing layer. SOLUTION: This water absorbing mat has a two-layer structure of which the surface is covered with an opaque film made of a thermoplastic synthetic resin. The mat is formed of a laminate obtained by laminating an opaque polypropylene film 11 having a large number of rips 13 formed by embossing and a nonwoven fabric water absorbing layer 12 containing 0.05-0.4 wt.% of a hydrophilic treatment agent corresponding to foodstuff, by a hot melt method.
