A novel benzene derivative having a long linear conjugated structure moiety, characterized in that it is represented by the following general formula (1): (1) wherein R<1> represents a methyl group or a hydrogen atom, and A represents an alkylene group, -CO-O-(CH2)n-, -C6H4-CH2-, or -CO-; a method for producing the benzene derivative; and a liquid crystalline material and an electric charge transporting material comprising the benzene derivative. The benzene derivative is novel and exhibits the excellent property of transporting an electric charge without the excitation by a light.
