PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a deep hardened layer on the surface of a soft metal member made of aluminum, aluminum alloy etc. and improving the surface hardness of the soft metal member. SOLUTION: The soft metal member is placed in a liquid, and a pulse laser is applied to the required points on the surface of the soft metal member to perform work-hardening of the surface by plasma generated by the pulse laser irradiation.
