PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester excellent in transparency, having a moderate and stable crystallization rate, excellent dimensional stability under heat, capable of efficiently producing a molded article free from emission of fluorescenc under radiation of UV light, especially a heat-resistant hollow molded article, and excellent in long-time continuous moldability because it leaves reduced mold staining, and imparts a wrapping material excellent in flavor keeping properties. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polyester comprises bringing the polyester mainly comprising a terephthalic acid component and a glycol component, into a water treatment, wherein the strength of the fluorescence emission of the polyester before the water treatment is≤20.
