The scanner has a bed [2] on which a newspaper [1] is placed. A vertical pillar [3] with projecting arm [4] supports a camera module [5]. This is focussed onto the newspaper surface and is moved across it. Mounted on both sides of the camera are lighting units [6a,6b].
