A long rectangular metal box (20, 50, 56), open at the front, is screwed to a panel (14) joined to a wall (3). The table top (10) is swivel mounted with hinges (12) to the inner surface of the holding device (50). Two carrying bars (30) are swivel mounted (32) with one of their ends to the lower edge (16) of the table top (10). Two springs (40) act on the inner sides of the bars (30). When the tabletop (10) is swiveled into a horizontal position the carrying bars (30) are automatically guided with their opposite ends into pipe sections (24) located at the holding device (50) in order to support the tabletop (10) from below.
