PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mammographic image photographing apparatus with which a decline of a radiation dose by absorption of radiation by a front plate of a cassette and an accompanying increase in quantum noise of radiation are prevented so that a picture with high definition can be obtained. SOLUTION: This mammographic image photographing apparatus 1 includes a radiation source 6 to irradiate a subject H with radiation, an object table 10 to place the subject H at an opposite position to the radiation source 6, a detector supporting member 12 to support a photo stimulated luminescence plate 17 which detects permeated radiation through the subject H, wherein a shading member 30 to cover the detector supporting member 12 is installed, and a controlling member 100 which controls the detector supporting member 12 to support the photo stimulated luminescence plate 17 in the situation that at least a surface facing to the radiation source 6 is open so that radiation irradiates the photo stimulated luminescence plate 17 directly is also installed.
