PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine excellent in the handleability of a cylinder cover, impact resistance and durability in the sewing machine provided with a nearly cylindrical cylinder head proper for the sewing work of a cylindrical matter to be sewn. SOLUTION: From the distal end of the cylinder head 1, one or a plurality of cover supporting rods 3 and 4 project in parallel with a looper shaft and so as to avoid interference with a looper. The cylinder cover 2 is provided with fitting parts 10 and 11 to fit the cover supporting rods 3 and 4 on its inner wall surface. The cover supporting rods 3 and 4 have such a length as allows their distal end parts to reach the distal end wall of the cylinder cover 2 or its neighborhood, and fitting keeping means 7 and 12 for keeping the fitting state of the cover supporting rods 3 and 4 and the fitting parts 10 and 11 is provided at proper places.
