The invention aims at providing a process for the production of bisphenol A, more specifically a process for the production of bisphenol A having a high purity and a good hue. The process comprises the crystallization step of forming a slurry containing a crystalline adduct which step is characterized in that: (a) a feed consisting of a phenolic solution of bisphenol A is cooled stepwise in at least two stages to form a slurry containing a crystalline solid of an adduct, (b) at least two crystallization stages of cooling the feed to different temperatures respectively are present, and (c) the B/A ratio is controlled to 0.7 or below wherein A[wt%] is the solid fraction of the slurry in the final crystallization stage prior to the solid/liquid separation step and B[wt%] is the solid fraction thereof in the first crystallization stage wherein the initial crystallization occurs and in that a phenolic solution of bisphenol A is fed into one section of a multi-section crystallizer whose inside is divided into at least three sections by partitions and which is provided with a cooler in at least one section and the crystalline adduct slurry formed is successively transferred to the other sections, with at least one combination of two successive sections in which the slurry temperature in the latter section is controlled to be lower than that in the former section, to cool the crystalline adduct slurry step by step. |
