PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high quality image inconspicuous in stains on an original background in an image forming apparatus which reads and prints out an original. SOLUTION: A background detecting part 100 detects an original background level. A background layer part 110 generates a white toner image W (background layer information J10) showing an image area of the background level and transfers the white toner image to a halftone generating part 68. The halftone generating part 68 converts the inputted white toner image W into image formation data similar to normal image data Y, M, C and K (yellow, magenta, cyan and black) and transfers the image formation data to a white toner printing part of an image formation unit 30. Stains of a background part which can be generated in reading an original with colors such as a newspaper and recycled paper can be buried by white toner to make the stains inconspicuous.
