PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the usefulness of a recording medium of a write-once type in a recording medium such an optical disk as a write-once type medium, or the like. SOLUTION: The write-once type recording medium having a plurality of recording layers consists of: a normal recording and reproducing region; an alternate region, a first alternation control information region, and a second alternation control information region (TDMA). Further, write presence/absence presentation information (space bit map) is recorded. The second alternation control information region is a region in which rewrite of alternation control information is realized by additionally write of the alternation control information relating to alternation processing. The alternation control information recorded in the second alternation control information region comprises information conforming to a first information form (status 1=[0000]) for each one data unit, and information conforming to a second information form (status 1=[0101][1010]) indicating an alternate original address and an alternate destination address unifying a plurality of data units being physically continued. A plurality of data units are alternation-controlled efficiently by the second information form.
