PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a passenger to escape from an elevator by himself/herself even when power failure occurs and supply of electric power is difficult in the elevator. SOLUTION: This elevator has a car door 4 provided in a car and a landing place door 1. First engaging means 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13 are provided on the car door, and landing place door system matching pieces 3A, 3B are provided on a landing place side. It has a sensor 15 detecting landing at a floor of the car, an actuator expanding when energizing, and a controller 14 operating the actuator based on signals of the sensor. The first engaging means is provided with a car door engaging piece 9 having a first engaging part 19 engaging with a landing place door engaging piece when energizing the actuator and a second engaging part 20 engaging with the landing place door engaging piece when deenergizing the actuator.
