The blasting medium (10) is turbulized by compressed air before adding in a chamber (9) to the mixture of fluid vapor and carrier gas. Vapor and/or medium can be stopped off as required and in any event the vapor should be cut off towards the end of the operation so the medium is drawn out by the carrier gas along for lance (1)emission. The chamber can contain an inbuilt turbulizer, specifically a compressed air source (15). Medium and vapor can be fed separately to the lance, as itself linked by line (8) to the chamber (9), the line entry being directed onto or near the chamber wall.
