Device for measuring relative acceleration has an eddy current generating body (8), permanent magnets (2, 3, 4) of alternating polarity and planar sensor coils (6, 7) for detecting changes in secondary magnetic fields resulting from the movement of the eddy current generating body relative to the primary magnetic fields of the permanent magnets. The sensor coils are applied to the front faces of the permanent magnets so that the centers of the secondary magnetic fields essentially run along their middle axes.
