The return motion stop, especially for continuous mechanical handling equipment, has a housing (10) with a freewheel with a rotational driven inner ring (16) and co-axially disposed outer ring (20). A friction ring loaded by spring force against a friction element (48,50) transmits torque between the outer ring and housing. The friction ring is constructed as a fluid pressure operated annular piston. The motor shaft of a drive motor or auxiliary shaft of a transmission is coupled to the inner ring with positive locking, and the outer ring solely has frictional engagement with the housing.
