PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a select assisting device for an automatic transmission capable of improving the degree of freedom for cabin layout and design characteristics of a select lever and obtaining suitable operation characteristics with a click-stop-like feeling. SOLUTION: The select assisting device of an automatic transmission is provided with a torque sensor 12 detecting input torque to a select lever 2, an inhibitor switch 13, an electric motor 7 outputting assisting torque assisting operating force of a driver to the select lever 2, and a control unit 14 controlling the electric motor 7 in proportion to range signals and input torque, and when the range signals are changed and input torque becomes zero, the control unit 14 stops output of the electric motor 7 until a predetermined set time T elapses.
