PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information input device and portable terminal equipment for which it is easy to input the information of characters or the like in both cases of vertically long contents and horizontally long contents, handleability is excellent and the number of times of inputs can be small. SOLUTION: The portable terminal equipment is provided with a ring-like dial 16 attached to a portable terminal body 1 and provided freely rotatably around a fixed part 15, at least one or more buttons 17 provided on the dial 16 for deciding the character or a menu for inputting the information, and a display part 20 for operation input arranged on the inner side of the dial 16 for displaying the character or the menu. Further, the portable terminal equipment is provided with a display control part 7 for displaying the character or the menu of a hierarchy under the selected character or menu at the display part 20 for the operation input when a prescribed character or menu is selected from the character or the menu displayed at the display part 20 for the operation input by the pressing of the button 17.
