A workpiece holder (7) for milling both sides of a workpiece (2) is mounted on a vertical endless belt (3) between upper (4) and lower (5) pulleys. The pulley system is gear linked to the work bench to move the belt system laterally as the workpiece holder is moved up and over the top pulley. The gearing is set to maintain the position of the workpiece w.r.t. the milling head for a fast and accurate milling of both sides of the workpiece. The drive can be motorised and the belt drive can be a simple belt of chain.
