<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction plate for a wet type multi-disc clutch or a wet type multi-disc brake capable of reducing grazing due to friction heat, restrict lowering of a friction coefficient, prevent generation of seizure, and achieve long service life even in high-load condition usage environments. <P>SOLUTION: On both surfaces of a circular core plate, layers of friction material are provided to be disposed alternately with separator plates, and they are friction-engaged with the separator plates in this friction plate. The surfaces are formed as inclined surfaces to become continuously thinner from an inner circumferential side end part toward an outer circumferential side end part.
