METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CORRECTING DATA STORED IN STORAGE MEDIUM AND COMPUTER READABLE STORAGE MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use error correction codes to correct errors in data stored in a storage medium. SOLUTION: Data stored in the storage medium is corrected by retrieving a plurality of data blocks and a plurality of error correction codes (ECC) from the storage medium. One ECC corresponds to one data set having data from many data blocks, and ECCs are generated before data blocks and ECCs are stored in the storage medium. After data blocks and ECCs are retrieved from the storage medium, it is discriminated whether data sets have errors or not on the basis of data within the data sets and ECCs corresponding to the data sets, and errors show that data within data sets retrieved from the storage medium is different from data within data sets originally stored in the storage medium. Data within data sets discriminated as data sets having errors is corrected by using ECCs corresponding to the data sets. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
