PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high density magnetic recording medium which is suitable to use with MR heads, and has excellent electromagnetic conversion capability, run durability, still characteristics and unbalanced head abrasion resistance. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer made by dispersing ferromagnetic powder and polishing materials in a binder on a base, and the magnetic layer is 30-100nm thick. Further, the value of A is 1.25-3.80 in the expression A=D/T which shows the relation of the average size (D) of the polishing material and the thickness (T) of the magnetic layer.
