PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing inexpensively and simply a 3-amino-5-pyrazolone compound containing a substituent group at the 4-position in a high yield, useful as a photographic coupler, a photographic additive, a medicine, an agrochemical, or the like, or their intermediate and to obtain a 2-cyano-2-(1-pyrazolyl)acetic acid ester compound useful as a synthetic raw material for the 3-amino-5-pyrazolone compound. SOLUTION: The latter compound is represented by formula (I). The method for producing the former compound represented by formula (IV) comprises reacting a compound represented by formula (II) with a compound represented by formula (III).
