Electrooptical light modulating element, with substrate(s), an electrode array, light polarization element(s) and a modulating medium (I), operates at a temperature (T) at which (I) is in an optically isotropic phase in the unmodulated state and the mesogenic (I) contains a chiral component (A), consisting of chiral compound(s), and has a blue phase at T; or (I) is present in the isotropic phase at T. An independent claim is also included for mesogenic control medium for use in an electrooptical light modulating element, which has an optically isotropic phase, preferably a blue phase, in the range from 0[deg]C to less than 80[deg]C or more.
