<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for saving a printing medium which is used when a recording condition of a dot of a dot forming element is confirmed. <P>SOLUTION: When an inspection pattern T10 is printed on a new printing paper sheet, the first inspection pattern T12 is printed so that the top end of the pattern is placed on a position at a distance of At from the top end of the printing paper sheet P. When the printing paper which is already used for checking of a nozzle and has one or more inspection patterns T10 printed thereon is reused, the inspection pattern T14 is printed thereon so that the top end of the inspection pattern is placed on a position at a distance of (At+Hb×Np) from the top end of the printing paper sheet. The value of Np is the number of the inspection patterns already formed on the printing medium when the new inspection pattern is to be printed.
