PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a well-machined piston ring in which rise in the surface pressure of the mating mouth part can be restrained in an actual operation of a high Pmax diesel engine, the risk of wearing the upper and lower surfaces of the piston ring and the piston ring groove is greatly reduced. SOLUTION: The piston ring 1 has almost circular shape, and comprises an outside peripheral sliding surface 11, an inside peripheral surface 12, an upper surface 13, the lower surface 14, and the mating part 15. A groove 12a is formed in about the central part between the upper surface 13 and the lower surface 14 on the inside peripheral surface 12. The groove 12a is formed in the range from the mating part 15 at±20°of the central angle with the central axis of the outside peripheral sliding surface 11 as its center. As for the bottom part 12b of the groove 12a, the depth becomes gradually shallow, as it goes apart from an end face 15A of the mating part 15. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
