PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems, e.g., that there is a need of performing quenching treatment from about 900°C for obtaining a martensitic structure in an iron based material, and, the cost increases because there is a need of performing heat treatment in a vacuum for preventing oxidation, and additionally, its hardness depends on a cooling rate, so that the obtainment of a homogeneous material has been difficult in a thick material, and to provide an epochal cast iron material capable of obtaining a material not only free from anxiety about the oxidation even in atmospheric treatment since a martensitic structure can be obtained only by performing cooling, but also homogeneous even in the case of a thick article since the hardness depends only on temperatures, and thus capable of obtaining a material which can be subjected to machining at ordinary temperature. SOLUTION: The iron based casting material comprises 0.5 to 10% vanadium, nickel and manganese satisfying the inequality: 5.9≤(%Ni)+0.4(%Mn)≤8.2; wherein, 8≤(%Ni)≤16, 0.5≤(%V)≤10, and (%Mn)≥0, and graphite.
