<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat belt retractor and its retracting method carrying out safety protection of an occupant by carrying out adjustment control so as to reduce webbing tension at collision of the occupant in a driver's seat of a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: A first transmission part 17 is provided at a reel 4 for retracting a webbing 2 wound on the occupant and a route for transmitting driving force from an electric motor 9 to the reel 4 and a second transmission part 18 is provided between the reel 4 and a seat belt lock mechanism 10.
